This area also has the Sea Breeze motorised zipline, which simulates a hang gliding experience, and a jogging track. It's easy to keep track of everyone while you’re onboard, too, as this is the first Princess ship that’s been purpose-built to accommodate the line’s MedallionClass technology. This helps you and your crew find each other onboard, as well as making things a lot easier on board – no more waiting in line for drinks or food; or fumbling around for your key card when your stateroom door unlocks as you approach. Additional spaces with new designs, signage and décor will include Crooner’s, Wheelhouse Bar, International Cafe, Good Spirits and Gelateria. The Shops of Princess – With five retail locations, plus an art gallery, The Shops of Princess get a makeover on Sun Princess and guests can expect the same great experience, just more of it. Guests can shop easily from space to space featuring Princess logo merchandise, a lifestyle boutique, a new bazaar featuring destination-specific selections, plus jewelry, watches, cosmetics fragrances and a modern art gallery.
... but its new suite zone is a miss

However, cruisers can also indulge in one of the premium ice cream selections that are part of the Princess Plus and Princess Premier packages. Along with some sides, cruisers can also indulge in crusty bread and a shared bottle of Chianti. Further, all cruisers will want to stop by to take a peek at the freshly made pasta prepared at the entrance of the restaurant.
Firefly Park Kids Club
Padgett is keen to emphasise that Sun Princess is not "a floating theme park", but if you want to bring your kids on an amazing vacation and have plenty of things for everybody, then Princess is the smart choice. Like the Medallion technology, Sun Princess has been designed from the start with families, in particular multi-generational groups, in mind. "It's pretty spectacular. What we believe is we are creating entertainment that is more engaging, more interactive, give new views from the guest perspective, and they'll get closer to the entertainment." And in keeping with the theme of magnifying everything that is great about Princess, the ever-popular Alfredo's now has an outdoor area – and a traditional wood-fired pizza oven. "It also has some terraced viewing within the Piazza so you don't have to be on the rail anymore to see the entertainment and activities. You have much better sightlines both interior and exterior across the ship." It's worth noting, too, that the Medallion, the line's wearable technology that personalises your cruise experience, was built into Sun Princess at the start of the build, rather than being added on post-build.
Bellini's Cocktail Bar
For the first time in decades, Princess Cruises has completely re-thought cabin design aboard Sun Princess. All cabins, from cozy insides to spacious oceanview and balcony staterooms, and lavish suites, have been completely redesigned from the ground up. They offer improved bathrooms and closet storage spaces, more electrical outlets, an entirely new décor scheme and – most importantly – more living space. Princess Cruises has revealed a first glimpse of the most contemporary and state-of-the-art designs imaged yet onboard Sun Princess – “The Love Boat” line’s newest, largest and most innovative ship ever built and scheduled to debut in early 2024. With bright designs inspired by rays of sunlight and next-level expanded spaces, guests are in for an extraordinary cruise experience including a showstopping Arena theater and stunning three-story dining venue - a first for Princess. Crown Grill – A favorite of Princess guests who enjoy a perfectly grilled steak, Crown Grill on Sun Princess takes this iconic space and modernizes it with a classic steakhouse feel weaved with modern touches.

But Princess has added another unique twist to the traditional main dining concept aboard Sun Princess. The Horizons Dining Room on Decks 6 and 7 is a spectacular space overlooking a bank of two-story windows that wrap attractively around the stern of the ship. Horizons on Deck 6 is for those passengers that have selected traditional early or late seating dining. Passengers without set dining reservations can make reservations, or walk-in, on the Deck 7 level of Horizons. There are plenty of other spaces for sitting back and enjoying the ship’s spectacular sea views – grab a coffee and watch the early morning sunshine dance on the waves from the Wake View Terrace shouldn’t be missed (and neither is the Terrace’s infinity pool). Pool deck spaces are wide and numerous, and the ship's top-deck areas are generous enough to handle the number of people onboard.
Not to mention, there’s not one but two coffee shops also serving light bites throughout the day. The ships overall interior design embraces the outside and celebrates the romance of the sea, offering outward views from morning until night. With brighter and lighter décor and finishes, Sun Princess delivers more memorable vantage points to take in the stunning destinations and ocean vistas guests want to experience on Princess cruise vacations. Coffee Currents is a new offering, while classics like Bellini’s Cocktail Bar, Crooners and the Wheelhouse Bar are reprised, though the latter is sadly subdued from previous vintage maritime showcases. Not yet available on our sailing was what will become Sun’s flagship dining venue — Love by Britto — highlighting spectacular views high above the stern for romantic dinners.
The biggest Princess Cruises ship ever
A favorite of Princess guests who enjoy a perfectly grilled steak, Crown Grill on Sun Princess takes this classic steakhouse to a new level with modern and upscale decor. Inviting leather booths, circular seating, and contemporary artwork custom-designed for this restaurant welcome guests for an unforgettable dinner experience. This all-day dining venue is conveniently located adjacent to the Piazza and offers expansive windows overlooking the outdoor Promenade.

Even if views overlook a lifeboat or a technical deck, we love to see Princess' Cruises commitment to the sea expand to its newest vessel. In many ways, Sun Princess offers more views of the sea than the line's previous Royal -class ships. Sun Princess staterooms (2162 total) include 469x suites, 949x Standard and 100x Cove balconies, 186x Oceanviews, 460x Interior. Of all staterooms, 100x are interconnecting (for families) and 55x are handicap/wheelchair-accessible. All balcony staterooms (1518, or ~70% of all) are with triple/quad occupancy, being fitted with sofabed.
Signature Lounge
Then in the evening it becomes an entertainment venue with a little bit of a South Beach vibe, state-of-the-art lighting effects and a portfolio of new aerial entertainment shows. The Dome is multi-level, covered and is really a first of a kind enclosure that is multi-functional, so in the day it's a place to relax, read and have a coffee, while basking in the sunshine streaming through the glass. Its new-for-Princess, in-the-round shape can be converted into a more traditional proscenium-type theater or a keyhole-type theater to allow for different types of productions. That said, as I am seeing this week, there's still a lot on Sun Princess that Princess regulars will recognize. Unfortunately, Princess didn't cluster all the new suite features in one area, which seems odd given the line's executives said they started from a blank slate when designing this new class of vessels. More power points are above the nightstands next to the bed — a U.S.-style outlet, a USB port and a USB-C port on each side.
A set menu of classic American fare is offered here, with options for breakfast, lunch and dinner – or breakfast for dinner, if you so choose! The emphasis here is on fast, quick and casual meals that still offer table service. It’s a great addition for those who want a sit-down dinner without devoting the time needed for the more traditional experience at Horizons. The Sun Princess deck plan also includes new features like Spellbound by Magic Castle.
From The Piazza are accessed Coffee Currents (new for Princess coffee shop), Bellini's Cocktail Bar, Crooners Bar, Ocean Front Lounge, International Cafe, Alfredo's Pizzeria as well as the Lobby's guest services desks (Shore Excursions, Future Cruise, Reception). There are several dining options on the list of Sun Princess restaurants that are included in your cruise fare. These include the main dining room as well as the newly relocated cruise ship buffet.
The Dome, a transformational entertainment venue inspired by the terraces of Santorini, is the perfect place to relax and the three-story Horizons Dining Room is sure to have everyone talking. Firefly Park, Princess Cruises’ kids club for ages 0 to 6 aboard Sun Princess, is the largest in the fleet. Painted in hues of forest green and chocked with games, diversions and crafts, it is located on Deck 6 near guest relations and the ship’s sheltered Cove Balcony staterooms. So does Love by Britto, an artistic-inspired dining experience that celebrates the joy of love in all its forms. The seven-course menu (US$149 per person) begins with a flute of Champagne and features premier ingredients like lobster, caviar, truffles, and vanilla from Tahiti.
There's also a built-in desk area across from the sofa with a chair and a generous amount of built-in closet storage near the entryway. The closet is deep enough to contain my large-size men's shirts and jackets on hangers without crushing them sideways, something that isn't always the case with built-in closets on newer ships. While the finishings aren't luxurious, Deluxe Balcony Staterooms (the type of cabin that I was in and the most common cabin category on the ship) have an inviting, modern look with the right amount of furnishings and amenities, all in the right places.
There was also a limited amount of space for seating during nighttime shows or lounging during the day (when it serves as a solarium-like lounge and pool space). For shows, it's billed as having a capacity of just 250, about a fourth the amount of the Princess Arena. Princess has long been known for having lots of entertainment running at once in multiple venues. Billed as an "artistic-inspired dining experience" designed in partnership with the artist Romero Britto, it'll overlook the wake of the ship in a space that isn't quite ready. Alternatively, all guests may reserve a spot at The Sanctuary, which offers a sense of seclusion with a dedicated sun deck, pool, whirlpools and bar with available food delivery. Accommodations are truly premium onboard Sun Princess, thanks to much improved entry-level layouts and enhanced amenities.
This inspired stateroom offers the added indulgence of a private balcony with well-appointed outdoor furniture and a relaxing view of the scenery that surrounds you, whether a rainbow-colored sunset over the ocean or a new city to explore. It’s also the perfect setting for cocktails before dinner or a leisurely breakfast. The menu features unique handmade pasta courses prepared fresh daily, along with other classic Italian dishes. Guests can enjoy starters like arancini, creamy Burrata Caprese, and Classic Beef Carpaccio. Seafood dishes and savory meat selections like lamb chops, veal tenderloin, and chicken parm are entree highlights. And of course, cruisers can’t pass on the Tiramisu or my favorite, the Ricotta Cheesecake, for dessert.
The cruise brand is also offering financial reimbursement for select travel costs for guests who have already arrived ahead of their sailing and for guests who have not yet started their travel certain changes fees related to flights. The ship does need to remain alongside in the shipyard to allow for additional technical work to ensure an outstanding vacation is delivered. Those looking to move (or relax) their bodies might do so in nine whirlpools and five onboard pools, one of which is terraced below the Promenade and overlooking the wake. Another stretches below The Dome’s edge, making it an indoor/outdoor option when the acrobatic stage is not extended. In the living area, a plush bed and sofa await, and — in a setup that should be a standard on all ships — there are a pair of USB charging ports and a U.S. electrical outlet at both nightstands.
